In 1965 local businessman and civic leader Jim D Moody, along with his wife Mattie, began the operation of the Hanceville Nursing Home. While many nursing homes are now the property of large corporations, ours remains a family-owned facility dedicated to meeting the needs of our neighbors in Cullman County and throughout Alabama.
As our neighbors’ needs have grown, so have we. At 208 licensed beds, we are one of the larger nursing homes in the state, and this size has allowed us to implement highly specialized service centers.
We provide a specialized Alzheimer’s program to deal with the unique needs of those suffering from dementia. We also operate one of Alabama’s best rehabilitation centers, offering physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. In addition to long-term residents, our patients include those staying a few weeks while recovering from surgery, stroke, and disabling injury.
From personal experience in seeking care for his elderly mother, Kitty, Jim D knew there was a need. He built this nursing home for her and others requiring skilled care. Until he passed away in 1994, meeting the needs of our residents and their families was Jim D’s daily mission.
When you enter our facility you can always be assured of a warm, friendly greeting from staff who take a personal interest in every resident. We have several pleasant patios, sunrooms, and courtyards for our residents to enjoy. Rocking chairs, swings, and other furniture are provided, along with pergolas and shaded porches. Mattie’s Garden is an area where residents can plant and tend to their own flowers and gardens and even relax by our fishpond. Much has changed over the years in terms of technology and methods of care, but we still live by the words Jim D told us to keep in mind every day: “Treat each resident as if they were your own Mama or Daddy.”
Our nursing home offers private and semi-private rooms with comfortable amenities to make our residents feel at home. We also have common areas for socializing and relaxing.
